Yes. Your partner can be any nationality and located anywhere in the world. If they are a non-US citizen, they will need to have their documents notarized locally. The Gold package includes an Apostille, which is recommended for international marriages as it provides international certification of the marriage certificate.
Yes. Montana law specifically allows double proxy marriages for active duty military. These marriages are legally valid in all 50 states, recognized by every branch of the US military, and accepted by DEERS for dependent enrollment. It's the exact same legal status as any other marriage.
No. The entire process is 100% online. You fill out the application from your phone or computer. For the Bronze package you'll need to visit a notary (JAG office, bank, or UPS store on base). For Silver and Gold, we cover the notary cost so you don't have to find one yourself.
Both include free notary service. The Gold package adds a State of Montana Apostille — an internationally recognized certification of your marriage document. This is important if your spouse is a foreign national or if you need the marriage recognized in another country for immigration, visa, or legal purposes.
Once you have your marriage certificate (digital copy same day), take it to your personnel/finance office (S1/MPF/PSD). They'll update DEERS and process your dependency status change. OHA typically starts within 1–2 pay periods, and you may receive back pay to the effective date of the marriage.
